I started this thread for myself and other 3 gun shooters who are avid Hide members to discuss 3 gun and 3 gun related stuff. I picked the Bear Pit to start it so that any and all haters could feel free to chime in and shit on us without reprocussion, cheers 🍻

i shoot 3 gun.....but i look at it more of as practice/ training than i do match/competition.

i run it with duty holsters/ plate carrier/ ect.....i dont take the competition aspect of it too seriously.

me and a few buddies have a special trophy we give to the best shooter of our group after each match.

Checking in.
3 gun is my primary sport, I'm here on SH because I started dabbling in LR shooting as a way to have fun, since 3 gun is almost like a job now that I take it too seriously.
I’m getting back into competitive shooting after a hiatus thanks to full time work and being a full time student. I’m taking on my first match in awhile this Saturday. I’m hoping my dad makes it up this way to join me.

If I get a chance soon I'll spice up this thread with some beat up gun porn, but for now the important bits are:
Beretta 1301C
CZ Tac Sport
And a frankenrifle that was once a BPM Match Carbine

Sweet, I’m running an STI Marauder, my trusty Mossberg 930 JM Pro (10 shot), and a Frankenrifle of my own that Andy Barnes put together for me at his shop. I actually started the order form this morning to get a match carbine and a MK6 from him today, but got PCS orders today so that changed some plans. My current glass is the Athlon BTR Midas 1-6x24mm with the ATST1 reticle.

I picked up a Stretch 15 (yes not 16) barrel when they were on clearance. It was a special of run of them. I'm going to build a stick for bay 3-gun matches that won't be taking long shots. Currently have a P320 X5 done up by Robert Burke with his competition trigger job and a gunsmith fit Barsto match barrel. I use a Stoeger M3K 3-Gun and Benelli M2. I need to send the M2 out for some work.

How was the ice fishing? Blast anything with that hand cannon yet?
It was good thanks. Yea, she shoots good! Missed a chance to take it on a short notice hog hunt, but it will be used to kill something sometime this year. My uncles hunting buddy shot his Elk at 39 yards this season, if we get in that range this coming up winter it's on.

yeah i enjoy 3 gun (and 2 gun) more than prs. just more moving and running around, more guns, more shooting, faster-paced matches. but also fun ringing steel at gas gun and prs matches.

@TonyTheTiger what is your kit set up right now?
7045858
The old trusty Tac Sport, starting to show the miles. All the standard CZC and Cajun goodies, springs/trigger/sights/10x bushing etc. Mags hold 23 with CZC guts. Huge grip redux done by me, trigger is right at 1.5lbs.

7045867
The 1301 Comp
Nordic extension, 12+1+1 capacity, Carlson chokes, port work by yours truly. Runs like a raped ape. Invictus Practical caddies keep it fed.

7045868
The bullet hose. Bought as a complete rifle but only the lower remains. JP LMOS BCG, RLGS 16" barrel, Cobalt Kinetics brake, no buffer/light spring, AGB set to barely lock back on mouse fart loads, Timney Calvin Elite trigger, C-More C3 scope in an ADM mount.
Shoots unbelievably soft and flat. I know everyone says that, but they have no idea. Sub .15 splits at 40 yards are often inside 4" apart.

7045875
The PCC for whenever I get a chance to shoot USPSA.
Hiperfire 24C, Taccom buffer system, 4" barrel with a brake then a 12" extension pinned/welded on, Sig red dot. Still working some kinks out but its a ton of fun already.

Silencerco ASR muzzle break
SLR rifle length gas system
JP BCG with JP enhanced bolt
JP Silent Capture buffer assembly
JP rifle tube extension
Hougu JP pistol grip with finger grooves
Luth-AR MBA-1 buttstock
Radian Raptor Charging Handle

You don't like my 12 year old timer? I made him myself (the wife helped) and he doesn't take batteries!

Yeah, a real timer is on the never ending gear-to-buy list.
Hahahahaha I’d have a twelve year old timer if I had a 12 year old. Two 8s and a 4 and 5 just can’t handle the beep and pushing record and getting all the action. So I just employ ole tits McGee for camera work and use my own timer. When you do decide to get one that CED 7000 is legit the best I have ever used. I learned about that model while training with some “special people” at Bragg they all used it.

I'll keep that in mind when I finally buy one. I've used them while ROing but I've always had too much going on to compare timers and gain a preference for one over the next.

Question for you all, I don't 3 gun, but have been watch several 2 gun matches on youtube... namely on Inrangetv, is there a data base or anything that lists where these matches take place?

My searches haven't yielded good results thus far. Found a few in the west and south west but not much in the midwest.

The Brian Enos forum is a good resource to find matches. No data base that I know of.

Yeah no real organized national database that I'm aware of. You're best bet is to google around to find a match, which will inevitably take you to Enos, then attend the match nearest you. Once there you'll find that all the regulars know of every match within a few states radius.

Used to shoot 3 Gun for years with my favorite match being the "Iron Man" in Parma, ID. That is a real match, 1000 rounds in 3 days (optional long gun stage to subtract time) and always a few stage guns like a full auto MP5 or a browning 50. You have to work at it with running form bay to bay, 3 story high zip line, carrying a 100 pound plus dummy and surprise hostage stages.

Seems to me that the sport started getting too popular and got watered down into simple targets and speed shoots. Been to a couple that rarely had rifle engagements past 100 yards. I understand they are trying to get more people thru the stages but it misses the point of the match.

As far as I am concerned once everyone started getting big prize tables people jumped into the sport to get shit not to better themselves. The old non sanctioned matches were the best and you had better be in shape and know your ranges or it would be a long and painful match.

Prize tables take a huge amount of work and take time away from setting up the match, trust me I know.

Fucking hate prize tables, I don’t even look at them. Agree that it brings in the wrong crowd.

I shot 3-Gun a little bit from 2011 to 2014 all over the US but a move and busy kids schedules got in the way. Miss shooting Iron Man, shotgun and the night matches most. Fun times... Planning to get back into USPSA and 3-Gun this summer along with some PRS shooting with a new 6CM that should be done soon

Tested out some new gear today:20190322_162905.jpg
Super stable to monopod off of, the rocker shaped bottom makes elevation adjustments much easier than a regular basepad and the sharp golf ball pattern digs hard into wood and rooftop props. The extra 3 rounds of capacity doesn't hurt, and the way I have them configured, a 20 and 30 round mag, I have two different heights available. The 20 works great for rooftops and prone shooting downhill to flat ground, and the 30 works great from flat to uphill angles or prone in taller grass.
