So I know there have probably been countless posts regarding 700 builds. I cant find a post to answer my exact questions so I am going to ask here.

I am preparing to build my 1st 700 and am looking at 18” barrels. I want a lightweight rifle that will still reach pretty far distances. Most shooting will be around 500ish yards but I would stretch its legs some. Prefit “Remage” barrels have caught my eye due to the ease of assembling that i could accomplish with my owned gunsmithing tools. I am unsure of barrel twist and barrel contour, due to my lack of knowledge on the 700. Also, will any recoil lug work with the “Remage” barrels? Any input on that would be appreciated.........

Also, building from scratch, i know the main parts that i will need, such as Barrel, Action/bolt, trigger, chassis with lower metal. Are there any other small parts that are needed, such as bolt catch/spring etc? Ill be running an aftermarket trigger so i assume those parts do not come with the trigger. Any other help would be appreciated, thanks in advance.

The easiest way to build a remage in my opinion is using Northland shooters supply. They offer Criterion prefit barrels. They also have the barrel nut and precision recoil lug. You can get most if not all tools needed from them plus any advice on the barreling job. They stock everything you will need. They offer a factory trued 700 action for a real fair price. Great business to deal with. Give Jim a call and he can definitely help you out. What caliber are you thinking about going with.

The offer a taper lock tool that works with their recoil lug to position it when assembling the barrel to the action. It’s damn slick. I’m not a big 30 cal shooter. Best advice I can give on twist rate is call the manufacturer of the heaviest/ longest bullet you plan on using. They can give you a pretty good idea on what you need. Any assembly questions along your build pm me. I’ll definitely help if I can.

Yep, go northland ss, one stop shop.
Action wrench, recoil lug alignment, recoil lug, barrel nut, barrel, barrel nut wrench, go gauge. They stock it all.
For a 308 just get a 10 twist, it’ll do everything you’ll want to with it.
I bet they have it in stock, if not it’ll be a “custom order” from 1 week to a couple months. I think they submit orders to criterion in big batches. My first custom order took the full two months, my last took 2 weeks.

My last custom order took half the quoted lead time. Any more I just call them when I need any product they sell. Best customer service you could ask for.

NSS definitely gets a thumbs up from me as well. I have only dealt with once so far, but it was a fantastic experience.

All of the parts on my sons rifle came from Nss and KRG. Truly a one stop shop for do it yourself rifle builds.

For a little extra, get a 700P 5R or a 700 5R barreled action from eurooptic...

$550 or so and WAY better than the regular line 700s.

I went with a Howa 1500 in .308 as my "500 yards the first time, every time, from any supported shooting position" rifle.

Got the barreled action from Brownells and a blind box mag B&C. Great rifle, super handy (20"), versatile and cheap caliber.

Check out the 20" remington 700 5R barreled actions. Threaded muzzle and bolt knob from factory, nice stainless bbl. Throw it in a KRG and you will have a badass rig for $900.
