new guy ? I see actions listed followed by 308 bolt face.... my dumb question is does that mean the bolt only works for 308 rounds or is it there multiple calibers that fall into the "308 bolt face" category.... fire away at me just go easy on the new guy lol

For the most part, there is basically standard, e.g., .308; magnum; and .223/5.56 bolt faces. Actions also come long and short. For example, .308 Winchester and 30/06 Springfield both have the same standard bolt face, .308 usually uses a short action while 30/06 uses a long action.

So, your .243 Win., 6.5 CM. .308 Win., .35 Whelen, etc. will all use .308/standard bolt face.

.308 bolt face refers to the .470" dimension of the case rim. There's a whole host of cartridges that fall into the "308 bolt face" family, both short and long action. 22-250, 243, 308, 30-06 etc, etc. A simple way to determine which cartridge fits which family is to refer to a shell holder chart.
