    30-06 Ackley info and opinions?

I know this is an old thread, but over 2900 fps! Less trimming of brass would be enough to get me to try a 30-06 AI. But if I could get over 2850 fps, be easy on brass, not have to trim much I'd be pretty happy. Sounds like something to try with RL26. Edit: This was in reference to a 215gr...

Nice rig. What velocity are you getting with the 180gr Bergers? TIA

6.5 CM 147 EDL Match and cow elk question

There's a pretty good write on LongRangeHunting done by Cody. He said everything died but he wasn't impressed with them. So I think he went back to the Berger 140gr.

    280 ai

You're one step closure than me. I'm pondering using a 180gr ELDM. A 175gr Berger load was suggested to me. Here's a link to it. https://www.longrangehunting.com/threads/280-ackley-improved-loads-for-26-8-twist-barrel.200004/

Help from the 175 SMK/I4064 Loaders

One key factor that worked for me on the concrete bench with a Harris bipod was two tings. Really tighten that Harris on securely with a quarter or screw driver. And push forward and "load" the legs up with some pressure. The wooden bench seems like it could cause problems with the legs varying...

Help from the 175 SMK/I4064 Loaders

I really like TAC with 77grainers, but only with Fed 205's. Other primers it's okay, but not that tight. I'll have to try some 8208XBR. Yeah I like it for the 50's gr also. but I've heard so much good things about Benchmark that I'll try that. In any case try TAC or RL15. IMR 4064 is still a...

Help from the 175 SMK/I4064 Loaders

With both 168gr and 175gr either SMK or Bergers I've done well with TAC or RL15. I used to load with IMR 4064 but have switched. I also use Fed210M but like you mentioned Fed210's will work. Since TAC flows so well I tend to use that the most now. Also I see the wooden bend and you using a...

Suggestion for a "walking varmint" gun

I never shot at squirrels in trees, makes me nervous. I've used a 17 HMR for cottontails and was pleased with it. I saw tv shows using it for hunting squirrels in trees. I'd probably use a shotgun for that niche.

I'm building a 260AI for long range chucks. How far out have you shot them with the 147gr eldm?

    Pedal drive kayak

Those are nice but I bought an old 14ft alumacraft rowboat. Basically a canoe shaped bottom but it had aluminum oars. It was a joy to row. It could take an 8 hp motor but I just put on an electric trolling motor and rowed with it. It was great for fishing. But if you're going to cast a lot then...

    Lately I'm pondering a 280 AI using 180gr ELDM

That's what I was thinking. Originally I was thinking between a 7mm RM or a 300 WM. But the reality is I like to shoot a lot but cannot afford to rebarrel every year. So a 280 AI makes more sense for me. Plus the recoil should be inline with the 06, just better ballistics as you mentioned.

    Lately I'm pondering a 280 AI using 180gr ELDM

I have looked into the 284 Win and the Shehane but most of the higher velocity loads come with 30-32" tubes using rl17.

    Lately I'm pondering a 280 AI using 180gr ELDM

What the specs on your rifle? That load would go 200 yards beyond the better 30-06 loads while maintaining 1500 ft/lbs. I like that.

    Lately I'm pondering a 280 AI using 180gr ELDM

Yes and I have a pushfeed M70 30-06 FWT in a factory McMillan stock. I got it pretty cheap because the PO was honest about a pitted barrel. Shoots fine so I never rebarreled it. VariXIII with Premier Reticle Mildot. I think that was be a good candidate for a FWT contour 24" 280AI barrel.

    Lately I'm pondering a 280 AI using 180gr ELDM

That load will work too. it's a tough choice. Your 7mm RM load is pretty good too. I'll make up my mind once I sell off some more rifles to pay for the builds.

Best Rest(s) for Prairie Dog Shoot

I was going to build a elevated platform on my old 300 buck wood truck, but alas it's been sold off. I prefer bags over bipods but some times it's what you can afford or what the terrain allows. Some times I'll set up on shooting sticks sitting on the ground. Other times sitting on a lawn chair...
