  • Removing surface rust

I recently picked up a low mileage TRP. However around the sights there is some rust.
Whatís the best method to clean it up?

Better with some wd40 and a toothbrush to start.

Don't go for the 'hard stuff' until you try the soft stuff.

Not a collectible... so you can't hurt it too bad. But you can do a lot with a toothbrush. Even if it does taste like crap afterwards.

Hell start with oil and a q tip, then move on to the toothbrush. Why would you ever use steel wool without starting with something that is not abrasive?

For the Screw Slot Cut a piece of COPPER electrical wire flatten it out to fit in the slot then use it to rub the rust out. Oil after.

Copper can also be used to remove surface rust.

Breakfree CLP and a toothbrush. It may not completely remove the rust but you won't see it anymore. I wouldn't use WD40on a bicycle chain muchless a firearm of any kind.
