What is known about the deadly 'Wuhan' coronavirus, scientifically nomenclatured 2019nCOv, SO FAR...

1. Local cases had been discovered as earlier as December 8, 2019 around the Wuhan metro area. The slow initial spread offers evidence that it is of zoonotic origin and has now mutated into the human genome. The first cases were dismissed as cases of severe influenza.

2. The outbreak began to kick off around December 31. Evidence is present that Chinese authorities initially tried to suppress information about the illness, and was thwarted by the massive response by citizens and medical personnel on Twitter and Weibo.

3. Around the same time, scientists from the Beijing Military University had decoded the viral genome of 2019nCOv and a patent had been filed, available for viewing on Google. The genome data was released to the rest of the global scientific community shortly afterwards.

4. 2019nCOv is a coronavirus, as is SARS and MERS (Middle Eastern Respiratory Syndrome) Most coronaviruses are harmless to humans, although some types like the ones mentioned here, are serious and potentially fatal.

5. The primary cause of death in viral pneumonias and influenza results from the body's own immune system going into overdrive, attacking itself and potentially causing organ destruction. Antibiotics are of NO USE against viruses. The only effective treatment for viral pneumonia is early detection and prompt hospitalization, followed by symptom management, fever reduction, fluid and electrolyte replenishment, and antihistamines to reduce severe immune responses. Prophylactic antibiotics are administered in the hospital ONLY to prevent secondary bacterial infections.

6. The city of Wuhan is also the location of TWO BSL (Biosafety Level)-4 laboratories affiliated with biowarfare research. A People's Liberation Army official had issued a warning in 2017 that the threat of a potential "hot agent" escaping from one of the laboratories is real and significant.

7. As of the time of this thread posting:

A. 14 cities in the Huabei provincial region are under mandatory quarantine.

B. Over 1,300 cases in the Huabei area. Still rising, with approximately 100 new cases diagnosed every 8 hours. Over 50 confirmed fatalities. The latest death is a Wuhan Central Hospital physician who had been critically ill for 9 days. It is still too early too establish a mortality rate for this virus, although current WHO estimates still place it around 2%.

C. Over 20 confirmed cases worldwide. All are people who have traveled from Wuhan in the last 3 weeks. None of the abroad cases are fatal as of the time of this posting. There are also 2 confirmed cases in the United States. Both are in stable condition and under quarantine. Over 630 suspected cases are still being monitored all over the world.

PLEASE KEEP THIS THREAD CONTINUOUSLY UPDATED WITH LATEST DEVELOPMENTS.

A spreadsheet showing the latest progression of the spread and morbidity/mortality of 2019nCOv is also available here:

The source is reputed to be from medical staff directly on ground zero at Wuhan's main communicable diseases hospital.

So Theraflu, sudafed, and Gatorade.
I'd add a couple antihistamines to that list to use in conjunction with a decongestant. Sudafed is a decongestant.

Many "all in one" cold/flu drugs contain different active ingrediants of pain reliever / fever reducer and decongestant. Not many have an active antihistamine. I prefer having the seperate ingredients with perhaps more control and targeted approach.

For instance, using ibuprophen and acetaminophen in parallel to reduce very high fevers when using one alone at directed dosing intervals is ineffective. Basically, follow directed doses of both in parallel. ER docs told us this when we took the boy in due to a high fever we couldnt get to break.

Here are popular OTC antihistamines.
ETA:

I would add acetamenophen, ibuprophen and aspirin to the list.

We thought we had a case here in AZ. Luckily we were able to run real time PCR and rule it out. Lady had the worse case of dehydration and salmonella they had ever seen.

Everyone be safe out there. Wash your fucking hands!

Number 6 would seem to lead to the most likely reason.
The "official" story seems to be aligned with the ebola/animal patient zero narrative.

R

One of the theories currently floating around is that authorities had deliberately turned a blind eye to the illegal trafficking of wild animals in the market, so if something do go wrong with one of the BSL-4 facilities nearby, a convenient scapegoat is already there. Of course, fucking around with unknown creatures, trading, butchering and eating them has to be some next level Darwin Award shit. Either way, somebody had played with fire. And now the conflagration is unstoppable.

Senator Hawley asking about potential travel ban from China...good idea imo.

That is a realistic, sensible and effective solution. China has already done their part as we speak. Chinese tour groups have been cancelled and all tours going abroad has been suspended indefinitely. CCTV 13 is on 24 hour epidemic coverage. Even the Spring Festival Performance has been moved to another channel.

If true (likely to highly likely) I wonder how many pandemics happen over there that we either know little or nothing about.

I always get a little concerned when something like this happens as I figure the event is always at least an order of magnitude worse than what’s being reported/disclosed.

China is a fish tank with waaaay too many fish in excess of its carrying capacity. We all know what eventually happens to such a fish tank. Unfortunately it won’t stay confined to the “tank”

China has vast expanses of open land.....its just mountainous, desert or otherwise inhospitable.

So the population is clustered in arable areas.

and the ability of those areas to provide is being stretched thin.

They need more living space...Assuming a major over-population driven “correction” doesn’t happen in the next 50 years or so, I imagine they will expand north into Siberian Russia, whether by consent/agreement or conquest.

Either way, I’d be concerned if I was Putin and start planning accordingly.

Mongolia looks to be a beautiful expanse of grassland/high desert based on an article I saw about fishing for their local salmonoids while waiting for a barber chair to open.

Only issue I think is that summer is from 1200 hrs until 1930 on June 21st and everything else is weather wanting to kill you.

Considering the level of response by China I would imagine the reported numbers are being seriously under-reported. Then again my understanding is that China is a seriously dirty place in general. With all the monkey brains, bat-head soup and bugs and crap they eat I am suprized they aren't all zombies already.

It's not the Chinese choices of proteins that are the big issue as much as the propensity to shit where they like and hawk up on the streets to get the 'evil spirits' out. I'm not suggesting that there aren't issues with these viruses coming from animals that should be downplayed but the hygiene practices of the mainlanders is a massive contributing factor and compounded by the population density. I've experienced all of this first hand, you never unsee a fat chick shitting on a public bus in the aisle.

I'm just waiting for the blithering idiots (known as DEMONcrats) to be wailing about "letting the poor chinese folks into the country" too, because they also 'just want a better life....' blahblahblah

So, about quarantining a continent... nobody gets out 'of there' and nobody gets in 'here', right?

Kids had a birthday party to attend today at a trampoline park.
It was standing room only with a 1hr line before you could even touch a trampoline.
I said listen it’s crowded and cold and flu season, how about I just buy you a semi automatic .22? Winner!
We gave an employee the kids regifted present and gtfo. After copious amounts of sanitizer we were back in the car and 45min later had a new 15-22+ crapptastic red dot+ 1400rds

Last year a mysterious shipment was caught smuggling Coronavirus from Canada. It was traced to Chinese agents working at a Canadian lab. Subsequent investigation by GreatGameIndia linked the agents to Chinese Biological Warfare Program from where the virus is suspected to have leaked causing the Wuhan Coronavirus outbreak.

game over man, game over.

Part of me thinks this is an economic/bio-warfare attack on the US from China.

Maybe Xi is going to shut things down just to make us hurt, regardless of the deadliness of the virus.

This.

What makes a modern epidemic so much more dangerous than one in the past, let's say like the 1918 flu, would be the vast network of air travel that can place anyone in any corner of the world within 16 hours. No matter where we live, we are no more than 16 hours away from the farthest location on the planet. Nothing is really isolated anymore. When Ebola broke out in West Africa in 2014, the first cases abroad were diagnosed within days. Diseases with longer incubation periods mean that an infected person would not even know that he or she is sick until they have passed on the infectious agent to multiple people. Couple that with a business traveler who clocks thousands of air miles per week and interacts with hundreds of people and now you have the ingredients for a perfect storm...

Fuck there is some nasty shit already going around right now locally. I have been knocked around by a pretty bad head cold for the last 2 days, getting better now with copious amounts of water and coffee. I've been "quarantining" myself so as to not get my GF or my mother infected, LOL. So far they are good. And this is a man who eats TWO apples a day. If I can get whatever is floating around right now, nobody is friggin' immune...

I’m sure there are many many cases here already.

The real question is ; how many infected actually need hospitalization?

It’s impossible that 100% of cases are being reported.

There must be victims recovering on their own, otherwise they would be dying in their homes.

The Chinese scientists were supposedly inappropriately sending samples from the Canadian Level 4 lab to the Chinese weapons level 4 lab in Wuhan in Sept.-Oct last year, before their "work" was discovered by RCMP and all the Chinese were "dis-invited" from Canada and kick out out of the Country and sent back to China. The concern is the the samples were fractured in transit in Wuhan, or their handling of the samples was f'd-up in the weapons lab there.

Some news article about the ejection of the Chinese from the Level 4 lab in Canada:

Chinese researcher escorted from infectious disease lab amid RCMP investigation | CBC News

Scuttlebutt is theLevel 4 Canadian lab was apparently working on alteration of strains to facilitate human to human transmission, on the type of virus that's now loose. You can take a look at the virus and see if it's lab altered by looking at the protein covering on that virus, if you can get a sample, that will show if it was modified to weaponized.

Since it's virus, there is really no way to Tx it other than control the symptoms, e.g. dehydration via saline drip, etc.

Victims will die of dehydration. If not put on hydration. Maybe 30% fatality if not treated, just a guess????

Apparently transmission occurs for quite a while before symptoms occur, so it will spread like wildfire. Hope i it works out OK, but this may not. Good luck to all. See you in Valhalla.

I wash my hands a lot. Started wearing gloves when i am in public places-did so for the first time grocery shopping the other day. I also use my sleeve to cover my hands when i open doors; which i’ve been doing a long time.

My son just showed me a meme about epidemics.....1616-1619 plague in england. 1707-1709 small pox. 1820 cholera, 1920 spanish flu...

2020? Not to fear monger, but facts is facts, and there is definately a pattern. And it’s been a long time since a serious epidemic has gone around.

Correct. That's called morbidity rate (people who get infected) versus morality rate (people who kick the bucket due to said infection).
