I’m picking up a pa10 this week and have a friend with a BA 18” 6.5 barrel they offered me for $160... very tempting. I have 2 6.5 bolt guns currently and no 308... wondering if I should leave this as is... or is it worth the change?

If you already have two 6.5 bolt guns, why get the 308? The less different types of ammo I have to buy the better. If you get the 6.5 barrel, then you can use the same ammo across all three guns.

I wish. I’ve got my bergers seated too long. I have to use the accurate mags without the binder plate so that ammo won’t fit in a ar10 mag.

just thinking. Might be good to have a 308 in the stable.... just in case.

Nah, develop a load for the 6.5 AR barrel that is mag length that shoots "good enough" in the bolt gun. Keep them separate but know that you "can" use the AR fodder if necessary. It will simplify your reloading logistics. And, that's from someone that competes with a 6.5 bolt gun and- LITERALLY- just finished loading some ammo for an LR308...

Keep it. 308 is so much cheaper to shoot. Since you already have two 6.5 guns it is not like you are loosing anything.

6.5 ammo is comparable in price to quality 308 ammo. That’s not a significant factor.

What do you mean "what"?

And my phone's autocorrect is controled by an illiterate Chinese diary farmer......
Like aslrookie said, ammo prices are pretty comparable. Unless you plan on hosing Wolf ammo through the 308, in which case there's no reason to consider a 6.5CM.

I really want to do a 13.5” 308 AR10. It would be an awesome close range big game hunting rifle.

Keep the .308 and buy the cheaper surplus 147gr stuff for 40 cents a round a use that. Every rifle doesn't need match grade ammo. Every rifle doesn't need ammo for it stacked from floor to ceiling either.

I would love to have a floor-to-ceiling stack of ammo for my 308 bolt gun. Never need to order ammo before a match or range session all the time lol.

So the 6.5 barrel is mid length and I’d really like to keep rifle gas, so I’ll probably just stick with the 308.

I ordered a PRS stock, would it reduce felt recoil going from the carbine tube/buffer/spring to a rifle tube? Having the longer springs seems like it would dampen the felt recoil more

I bet you end up getting a creed swap after just 1 or 2 range sessions with the 308. Dont stack too much ammo...

not true anymore....most 6.5 match ammo is cheaper than 308 match ammo

He may want to shoot the forty cent surplus. Would be a fun plinker but the 556 would be cheaper yet for that role I suppose.

Why one or the other. Both is the answer.

Thats what I paid for this entire rifle, with a magpul bipod lol.

Ill sling a few boxes of 308 and see how I feel. I was set to get that barrel until i found out its mid length gas... should that be a turn off to me, or am I thinking too far into this?

Yup but for that upper cost then you have two rifles for what most are paying for one 😉

Keep an eye for sales as they come down $50 bucks too.

I will second ( 3rd or 4th ? ) the "Buy another upper for the PA10."

All my Large Frame PSA's have been very good to me.... .308's and 6.5CM's.

Ultimately, ammo cost are similar... FGMM .308 can be bought for $17 / 20rds... Hornady 140gr Amer. Gunner is about the same price.

Cheap ammo wise... 308 surplus is slightly less then S&B 140gr 6.5CM

The bigger advantage to the 6.5CM is ( IMO ) far better wind drift and drop numbers.... especially with the spendier ammo.

I do suggest, using an Quality Adj. GB for both. Easier on you, easier on the brass, easier on function, faster follow up shots.

I hardly shoot my PSA 308 AR's any more... the PSA 6.5CM's produce great , satisfying groups so routinely.

The PSA Gen 3's have come a long way from the first ones... lots of refinements done.

I have done quite a bit of simple to do tuning to mine... 10rd sub MOA groups, are possible provided I do my part.

If you are AR savvy... barrel removal etc... you can do simple , precision enhancing mods...

May change the trigger out with a larue, the PSA 2 stage isn’t terrible though. Needs a bigger charging handle with the scope.

traded a grendel barrel and cash for a brand new 4-16ffp mrad Bushnell nitro. Seems to be a decent scope for what it is. It’ll be used for 500 yard matches and hunting where I won’t need to dial3CC53BC7-D1CF-476E-B930-6D509C958976.jpeg
