So I'd like to have my own software and all but the divorce hindered what I could and couldn't get. That had to get put on hold for a while still. Most anything else I can take to the local range I belong to and get data that way. But there's one solution I can't get that way that I could really use now if someone is willing to help. I know someone has a new unit they're playing with. FWIW, I'd like to get a Kestrel and a PDA (don't have a smartphone, don't want one) for use on the tripod. Maybe next year.

So here's what I need, my problem. I have two loads for the M2HB, API is approx. 647gr. and APIT is approx. 608gr. The brass is LC 14, resized to spec and loaded to 5.45" COL. The API uses 242gr. US869; this was enough to achieve 2900-3000fps. The M2 has a 45"bbl.

So what load do I need for the 608gr. APIT in order to optimize ballistics to the 647gr. API w/242gr., both being 5.45" COL.?

If you can do this for me and need more info, please PM me and I'll get you all the information you need ASAP. I'd just be grateful if someone could give me a similar load, somewhere to start at.

Thanks, and Happy Holidays to Everyone on the 'Hide!

There are many free balistic apps for smart phones.
Some upgrade to full app for 10$ (sniper pro) is one.

Ask friends for older (out of date) smart phones.
No cell service needed, just wifi to suck down the app.
Any teenager can get it going in a couple of minutes.
The battery may need replaced, 6-10$ online.
My range phone does ballistics and maps if you pull down maps from wifi ahead of time.

Like W54/XM-388 said. Is worth it.

Thanks for getting back guys, been away a bit, thanks for the responses.

So I don't have any programs. I will take a look at JBM online and see if I can get that to work. As for the smart phone, I've got a couple my ex left here but I really would rather have just a rugged PDA for this. It's simple and made for the job. I just don't have the funds at the moment for really anything, I got hit hard at the end of the year --several yearly bills come due all in two months, 3 big ones. So I'm probably down for 2 months at least.

Do you want loading data to achieve a certain muzzle velocity or trajectory for a given muzzle velocity?
I want the APIT to map the API trajectory as close as possible. What that'll look like, I'm not sure. Historically the APIT and API have never lined up, pilot and turret gunner's biggest bitch was that the tracers were on target --but the 4 in between weren't.

In short, I just want the APIT to hit as close to the API as possible, and if that can be done to ~1 mile that'd be even better. They burn out at that range so no need to map 'em farther than that.

Do you know the BC's of your respective bullets? I assume you are trying to achieve a similar trajectory?
I got this off another site but I'm not so sure about the accuracy, it looks right but not the number for the M33 (which isn't a concern anyway, those aren't being loaded with tracers). So:

649 gr API = .650 (G1)
650 gr APIT = .650 (G1)

I'm looking at JBM, is there a free one available that takes into account the powder weight? That one thing would make this go a lot smoother.

Yes, in a nutshell. I need loading data that will match the 610-619gr. APIT's trajectory to that of the ~647gr. API loaded to 242gr. and ~2900fps.

The APIT is a lighter and longer projectile. So the BC data above is likely incorrect but go ahead and use it. Well, it's probably okay for the API but not the APIT.

Eventually I'll get my own program and all, just the divorce I went through cut into the money I had to spend on this since I have to do all the bills alone. I need more than I can afford at the moment. But this is the only one I'm gonna ask for help on given the unique situation, weapon and caliber.

I do have Point Blank, the free download, but I just got it and it's hard to use and I'm not so sure it can compute a load's velocity given the amount of powder, etc. It would appear from what I can tell so far that the tracer should be going a bit faster than the API. Whatever gets a good trajectory match at 1000-1600m.

Thanks to anyone giving this a shot, I appreciate it.

Without accurate BC's and exact muzzle velocities it is gonna be pretty hard to figure anyway.
Yeah, that's why JBM didn't cut it.

I SWEAR there was a program some of you were using that included the POWDER type in grains AND gave the velocity and trajectory of the round.

Am I wrong about that? If so, that'd explain why I'm not getting what I'm asking for.

I suppose I'll have to chrono a few and work it that way. Was really trying to avoid the trip. But I have a thousand or so API's belted up so maybe I can have some fun while I'm doing it.

If anyone does have that program and can help me, please PM me. Thanks guys.

I think you may be referring to QUICKLOAD. I don't have that or I would give it a try, but even QUICKLOAD won't give you accurate enough velocity predictions to do what you need to do.

Yeah, thanks, I thought it was called Quickload! But when I found it and downloaded it, I got some program called Quickload that was more like a walkthrough shopping cart for building a house? I uninstalled it.

I guess I'll look for it again.

Even it it's not perfectly accurate, it can help me map a load to the one I'm currently loading and give me a good starting point. I'm hoping. That's saying the Quickload program that does ammo is free also! I'm gonna have to buy one some day, but not that one.

Thanks again!
