I know this was posted already a million times but I'm going to ask anyway. I'm interested in building my first long range rifle and I'm debating on going with a tikka t3x ctr stainless 24". Does anybody know any better options for a similar price? Probably just going to find a long range and plink with it for now but I might get into some sort or compititons eventually. Let me know what you guys think.

pull the trigger you know you wanna , just buy it and shoot it and have fun . If you like it it's all that matters , if you don't like it sell it for a huge loss to someone else who will be happy to own it at a nice discounted price and you get to start over on another rifle , scope and bi pod and ammo and bags . Everyone get to be happy . I hope it all works out for you and good luck in competitions .

You mentioned there are a lot of threads on this subject. What did they conclude? I’m sure you aren’t going to get any different answers from this one.

FWIW - I shoot a Tikka and my next rifle will be a Tikka too...

Or you could spend a little more and have this sexy beast and drop it in a chassis of your choice!

If hasn’t come out yet, anything you would hear would be pure speculation. Theory.

I bet you will be pleased with that CTR. I have a few and they all shoot 140gr American gunner as good as anything. 70 cents per round to your door.

Any recommendations on scope/base/ rings/brake then, I'm pretty sold on the ctr. Most people said the vortex pst gen 2 viper 3-15x44. Also heard good things about SWFA SS 3-15x42

If you purchase the SWFA, you have plenty of elevation in the scope to use the factory rail. The PST 3-15 is nice but lack elevation. You would probably be limited to 900 yards max. A 20moa will be in your future depending on distance.

Any rings will work. Brakes suck.

How come the brakes are a no go for you?

Its a personal preference. I use earplugs and muffs because I shoot so often (ready for my suppressor). Even double plugged, brakes are obnoxious. The best thing you can do to save your hearing is to add weight to the rifle to reduce recoil and muzzle rise and skip the brake. Even double plugged you are doing damage that will add up.

If I were competing I would shoot with a brake. If I were shooting a big magnum. I would use a brake. Beyond that absolutely not. Many love them and thats fine as well as long as they aren't shooting beside me.

Viper PST Gen2 3-15 is what I have on my TacA1. Excellent optic. Cant go wrong with Bushnell or SWFA either. Lots of great options out there. Major buyers market.

20" 6.5creedmoor, SWFA 3-15. Son loves this rifle. Killed his first two deer with it.
