I know there was a thread on these a while back but haven't heard anything lately. What is the general consensus now that they are in the wild? Any firsthand reviews on it?

There was a guy selling a couple in the Post Exchange a couple weeks ago so they are starting to trickle out. The Pre-order price of $1,300 from a couple of places was tempting, but I figured I'd wait for some reviews first.

At the current $2k price I'd go with a S&B or a XRS II.

Supposedly that was the price during the preorder
Not from EOTech, I contacted them multiple times about pricing and even with mil discount they would not move from the MSRP (apparently mil discount only applies to their red dots but not to the Vudu line???), MidwayUSA had them listed initially for $1599 or maybe even $1499 but you couldn't order until they came in stock, now they are back up to $1999. Then without any fanfare it would appear, they are now making their way into shooters hands while they still don't have their full specs listed on their website, that is one messed up marketing group they have!

I gambled with the $1,499 Optics Planet price a few months ago. I ordered 2 of the MD3 and 1 H59. The 2 MD3 scopes arrived yesterday.

Initial impressions - Super Compact. The MD3 Ret is usable without being too busy. Glass looks ok just messing with it in the house. It doesn't appear to be overly picky with they eye box until you get to max magnification.

(Cons - The mag ring on mine is pretty easy to turn. Almost too easy. The pull up turrets are a little cheap. They don't lock up, just spring tension.)

Overall - At $1,500 this thing will be on a TON of rifles... at $2,000 it'll be hard to sell compared to current S&B offerings

Im no stranger to Top Teir equipment. Ive literally got a S&B US5-20, Hendsoldt 4-16, and Steiner T5x 3-15 sitting next to it on the bench... Ill do a little side by side in the next couple days

As Promised - My thoughts after handling this scope for a couple days

Overview Of Benchmarks (1-10 Scale)

Role: 9.5
Value: 9
Optics: 7.5
Function: 7.5
History: TBD

Role (Intended Use) - This is where this optic shines. EOTech hit it right on the head. Super Short tactical scope with high magnification range. Its substantially smaller than its closest competitor (S&B 5-20US)

Value: This will depend on your purchase price. I bought mine at $1499 optics planet pre-sale. This optic is a great value at that price point. If your paying the $1,999 asking price these days id seriously consider other options. S&B's current sale comes to mind. Overall if your requirements call for an Ultra Compact scope, there are very few to chose from. So it still has a good value rating.

Optics: Ill leave this one short and sweet. This scope has glass comparable to its price point. The eye box isn't nearly as bad as I thought it would be.

Function: This is where I have a few minor issues. The turrets are my first complaint. The elevation turret is a little taller than I like, and it doesn't have an audible lock/unlock feature. The clicks feel good, and the turret seems usable. The capped windage isn't a deal breaker, ive gotten used to it with the S&B. The magnification ring is another story. On my units its very easy to move, borderline too easy. The whole eyepiece rotates, this is great for gloves, but id like a little more tension. Lastly, the brightness adjustment works well but I'm wondering about the longevity of the rubber buttons.

History: Here is the big question. How will this scope preform long term? Build quality seems solid, and the company will stand behind their products. Evidence (The EOTech exchange debacle) - Many people exploited this, myself included, and they never denied a return to my knowledge. This shows good product support.

Final thoughts - This scope isn't perfect, but its plenty functional. I give it an overall positive review mainly because I expected it to be much worse. In my opinion, it outperforms the DMRII & MK6 easily.

Competitors - Stenier T5Xi 3-15, Bushnell DMRII 3.5-21, Leupold MK6 3-18, SWFA 5-20

I’m sure he bought 3 at 1300 each. He’s trying to make 700 a piece off 2 to have his for free.
You are wrong, sir. But at least you are sure of it.

Also I've never heard of any type of preorder. If they were sold on Midway or Optics planet at $1300, I would imagine that is a mistake as that is below dealer cost and they honored the price anyways? No idea. Heck of a deal if that happened though.

With that being said, the first scope in my sales ad went to the first guy that made a reasonable offer. Maybe the second one will too. Both are Horus models so they normally go for $2199, not $1999.

@HOLD_OVER gave a pretty good review. I do find the glass to be better than the S&B shorty and have had them side by side. Also better than DMR. The MK6 is not even close in side by side comparisons. I have little to no experience with the Steiner.

I looked at it, that's pretty slick, I'd like one for sure for $1500 --I'm guessing there's no illumination for that price, right? The size would be great for clip on NV! Maybe I'll snag one used on here or Ebay one day if I can't find a lower price. No way I'm dropping $2k on it when I could have gotten a Steiner for that on a demo sale. I have to be picky though.

Burdy, I find this a bit surprising that you say the glass in the EOTech shorty is "better" than the S&B shorty? I'm not saying it's not possible I'm just saying that I have yet to find a scope in the $2k and under price point that can even compare to Schmidt, I think the Vortex AMG is probably the closest but at a price above $2k, next in line would be the Bushnell LRHS/LRTS series but even though this scope is really good it's not quite S&B good. Would you elaborate with regard to how the glass is better - is it resolution, color, contrast, CA, all the above?

In the case of the s&b, I'm only speaking about the shorty and only speaking in terms of resolution. As far as chromatic aberration and contrast I really don't know I would have to get behind both of them again back to back. As far as the Bushnell Elite which by the way is one of my favorite rifle scopes, the Vudu are vastly superior at light transmission. It just depends on what is important to you I guess. I've never looked through an AMG but I would certainly compare the Vudu line to the Razors when it comes to resolution.

I just spoke with Eotech and they said none of the VUDU 5-25 have been released. They also stated they were unsure of when they would be released. But he was hopeful in that it SHOULD be soon.

The 5-25x Vudu with the MD3 has been available for close to a week now, H59 for at least a couple days with some retailers.

Well that's hilarious because I just called two dealers and both of them have 5-25 inventory. One of them is Kenzie's Optics so go ahead and call down there and confirm if you like.

Hey I just was checking on my order and that was what the guy on the phone said.
Gotcha yeah maybe they had limited inventory that went out to certain dealers but they don't have inventory on hand for any pro deal or industry deal stuff. There are several dealers around the country who have them in stock now.

Burdy,

I found out what the deal is. I am under the instructors list and more than likely will be one of the ones who will get the scope last. They do not offer an Military or LE discount on this line of products but only an instructors list. Sorry I did call and they do have some in stock.

Again thanks for your information.

Thanks Burdy, you’ve caught my attention, would still like to hear from more but if what you say holds true that would be most impressive

Burdy ... This is why I didn't get into a discussion on glass. Everyones eye prefers something different.

This optic is definitely of good quality and better than I expected, but its still a product of the LOW factory. It should be compared with similar optics
The Razor is the most notable scope produced there.

With that being said, The coatings used by S&B have never been the preference for my eye (and apparently your eyes too). Great coatings, and phenomenal glass, but not my personal favorite. If I had a choice Id sit behind my Minox ZP5, The colors pop more to me.

We get too caught up on glass in this forum. These optics should be judged more on Purpose / Function than a subjective category like glass.

Tracking, Reticle, Magnification Range, Illumination, Turret Features, and Price ... These are better metrics to judge the scope

I spent a few minutes behind one and they are nice.

I really like the clicks on the turrets. The parallax was kinda stiff. I didn’t sit down and compare the glass to my NF or any other scopes but I’ve heard a lot of good things about them. Hopefully have one soon.

Parallax is a bit tight, but nothing like my LRHS. That sucker is ridiculous.
Send it in, I practically had to use a wrench to turn my Schmidt & Bender Ultra Short so I sent it in and they said they had to replace the o-ring on the field lens and now it's much better. The parallax on my LRHS is tight but not "ridiculous" so it could be yours could use a replacement.

got my 5-25 in yesterday...quick eye and feel test, im digging it

elevation turret reminds me of the way my bushy lrhs and xrs2 felt...windage turret is a little different feeling, but is tactile, doesnt have a lot of slop, and i only dial windage on movers anyways

parallax and magnification were both easy to turn and smooth, not too tight or too loose

might be a while before i get it mounted up to shoot side by side my other scopes since i have a few matches coming up and the hunting rifle im building for this is still waiting on an action...i thought about sticking it on my AT, but i dont think it will clear the factory rail unless i go buy some high rings just to mount it
