I’m looking to set up an Ir/visible laser and white light/Ir illuminator setup for a B&T APC 45. Room on the rail is a premium! The purpose of the gun is to replace the AR 9mm that is currently the bedroom HD gun. It will also serve for backyard pest control.

after playing with it a while now, it’s light, compact, soft shooting and amazingly precise for a pcc, and not terribly noisy unsupressed. It just works better! And with a brace I don’t need to worry about leaving NFA stuff outside of the safe

It’s currently wearing an aimpoint t2. The IR is for me to play with and use in the backyard. The visible is for my wife when I’m out of town. She’s competent but doesn’t train and it needs to be simple.

I don’t want the pointer and illuminator linked. And I don’t need or want a ton of IRvillumination as I’d only need to light up
50 yds outside.

I’ve thought about an cqbl-1 with an Arisaka scoutlight body and aSurefire vampire head. I can leave it on visible modeand link them with a TAPS switch?

Anything better?
Perst 4 set on low power? I couldn’t link them and would need to find room for both switches. Unless there is a Surefire capable dual switch? Price/value is tempting!

Surefire x400v or streamlight vir2 and forget about a visible laser?

Steiner dbal RL? I think the illuminator and laser are linked together.

when I’ve LARP’d around the house with my MAWL and NODS, anything but the lowest function setting is too bright.

Sounds like a Civi Steiner Dbal A3 would fill the ticket IMHO.

The unique Overide feature found on the Dbal A3 allows instant transition to white light and VIS Green Point. That would make it very easy for your wife. No matter what setting is on the A3 (except off), when you hit the Overide pressure switch linking the White Light and Dbal you get White Light and Green Vis Point.

Unity Taps Sync and the upcoming Unity Hot Button will be the pressure switch that will get it done.

Hope this helps.

It is actually the smallest in footprint as well as very light (8 oz). Much, much smaller footprint then anything else out there in its category.

They are tough as nails being the entire unit is made out of aluminium. In the Civilian line they also have a focusable Illuminator vs the Civi PEQ15 which has a non focusable Illuminator.

Between a Civi Dbal A3 and a Civi Insight PEQ15, the Dbal A3 is a much smaller, superior and durable device in many ways.

Here's another option:

IMG_1238.JPG

Mepro MOR has a tritium/battery/fiber optic sight w/ 5mW ea. red and IR laser slaved to the sight (zero one, zero all). Red laser swtich is active for all but off and IR positions. Will work on one battery in a pinch but takes two. Supposed to be the Israeli issue sight for use on Tavor by their SF but whether that's true or not I don't know.

For these kinds of applications they really work well but sit too high for co-witness on an AR. Turned out to be perfect for this one and I was glad I had it.

Then for illumination you could use the IR version of the light I have on this one.

@Strykervet He states he currently has an Aimpoint T2 mounted on the weapon. If not for that, your suggestion would be another great option.

I’ll have to check out the A3. That sounds like the solution. I liked that the cqbl was so small. And the vampire could do two roles. And it’s unlikely that they would be accidentally switched to ir. But the A3 might be better overall.

The height of that optic is another issue. The stocks and braces are so low on B&T guns that the optics have to sit low! Like an MP5.

The T2 could easily be moved to another gun. But, this is about as high above the rail as I could go without changing the brace. 8AD33EB0-AABF-453A-BCE4-E37ED0AA7BA9.jpeg

Visable lasers are next to useless and are mostly used to sight the NV lasers in assuming everything is slaved together.

For your purpose, I'd go with a Surefire/Streamlight white light/IR light/IR laser model.

I have both with the Surefire X400V on my MP5 and the Streamlight VIR2 on my night time pistols and really prefer the activation switch of the Streamlight over the Surefire.

I strongly beg to differ. The man said the weapon is for home defense and he anticipates his wife maybe using the weapon I assume when he is not there.

Point being, in a lot of home defense actions, normal people will try to do everything they can to avoid putting a hole in someone that they were not born with. Avoid the legal implications. A Green Dot on a threat has a fairly good chance of de-escalating/stopping the situation to where the perp leaves very quickly, saving the Mrs from having to possibly take a life. And if the threat/perp continues on with being a threat well there you go, commence ventilation efforts with extreme prejudice.

Explaining to the police that you warned the perp both visually and verbally and possibly having to explain what happened to a jury, would definitely help your case that it was a justified shooting.

IMHO a Green Vis Point also has several other important uses as well.

That’s pretty much the reason for visible. So that should wifey need to perforate an uninvited guest, or convince them to leave when I’m not home. It may help her to have a an easy to locate dot that doesn’t require a cheek weld, to indicate where the hole will go...

With the current setup, the hot spot on the scout light overlaps the point of impact at useful indoor ranges. Centering the spot on bad guy will make holes go in the bad guy.

Looking for a compact laser, this releasing very soon with adjustable power levels as well. Very small footprint.

Dbal pl. the pl is the important part.
Can you operate the pointer independently from the illuminator? From playing around with the MAWL, and my PVS 14, it seems like I never need an illuminator indoors. And unless I turn the gain way down the illuminator is usually too bright. Even on the lowest setting.
I’m tempted by the PL or RL though. It seems like a decent solution. Also, Surefire just announced their new all in one unit.
