I bought a Midas Btr a month ago and it did not have the upgraded turrets on it. So I called Athlon prior to arrival. Customer service told me to wait until I received scope and then call back, I think he was just blowing me off. I had told him that the previous owner said it did not have upgraded turrets as he was the original owner. So, call back two days later and the person on the phone said they will get them out asap. Waited two weeks, nothing. Called back. the person on the phone says that this is unacceptable and he will get them out that day and he would call me back to discuss zero-stop options as he was going to come up with a fix. No phone call, no package received. Called back today, was told they would be shipped out today, we will see. It's a shame too, I like the scope. Talked to a different person each time. Just a warning to those that need customer service!

Interesting! I had the complete opposite experience with my dealings with Athlon. All of my concerns were quickly addressed and all communications via either phone or email were responsed to in a satisfactory and timely manner.

Not in any way an excuse for what you are going through, but the main difference between our interactions may be that I initially identified whom I was dealing with at Athlon by name and directed all subsequent communications through that individual. In my experience, politely getting someone to personally own a problem and be accountable for its resolution has consistently yielded the best outcomes.

Got it! In a perfect world I totally agree with you. However, sometimes things get hectic and an employees best intentions get thwarted by an unavailability of parts to send. Ideally, you should have received an additional response from whomever took down your name and number... :) next time you’ll have their name and number too to hold them accountable. (y)

Just a heads up. I just got off the phone with Athlon. I saw this post and as a long standing supporting vendor here as well as an authorized Athlon dealer I wanted to make sure you were taken care of., and you were.
The new turrets were shipped out to you yesterday.

A couple things, and correct me if I am wrong about anything I am saying please....

You purchased this scope used from the original owner and Athlon has sent you replacement turrets showing their commitment to the product (as they sent you newer series upgraded turrets) and their transferable warranty.

Always ask who you are speaking with when you call anywhere for customer service in case you need to follow up. BTW, yesterday you spoke with Matthew. I do not believe the 1st guy really ignored you as he just wanted to confirm, once you received the scope, which turrets were on it.

If you ever have an issue with any product we are an authorized dealer for please feel free to contact us and we will step in and assist whether you purchased the item from us or not. That's part of our commitment to Snipers Hide members as a supporting vendor.

Have a great day

I bought a Helos Brt 6-24 from camerland last month - took it out and turrets didn't tract correctly- we talked about how it was set up - so i torqued main tube to 18-20 from 15 lbs and still tracked wrong. I called Athlon directly and sent it back ( on their shipping label). 1.5 week later I had a new scope . was told a problem from factory .
I had a vortex pst SFP 6-24 on it - and I don't really noticed any difference. actually better eye relief
so I have to give their service a thumbs up for now
and thanks to Doug for good deals - bought thru contacting him on FN Forum though

My S&B is at the service center for vertical POI shifting right now, just saying.

None of my 7-8 Argos and Talos BTR's have had to go back for service, just saying. One friend had to, it wasn't right to begin with. There must be 15 or so other ones among friends that are fine.

Recently another friends SWFA 3-15's parallax knob fell off, he sent it back and they sent him a new one.

Sometimes you get a bad one, send it back.

Are you guys getting my point?!

Yep.... No matter who the maker or what the value there will ALWAYS be issues.

High dollar scopes that say only 100 can afford and 4 go back "HEY not as many problems" "blah blah better scope" "blah blah get what you pay for".

Lower value scopes that the masses (say 500) can afford and 20 go back Still the same failure ratio. Doesn't mean one's better than the other.

Doug,

I spoke with Matthew yesterday, turrets went out today, not yesterday, as per conversation with Dustin this morning. I did buy the scope second hand (which shouldn't matter with the lifetime transferable warranty} and the guy I spoke to first was the same guy I spoke to two days later and he still did not send the turrets as promised. The 1st guy ignored me on both accounts as he did not help me either time. He is supposedly no longer with company. On to last week. The guy sounded very willing to help and I thought it was taking care of. He took my name address and phone number and apologized for the issue not being handled correctly. Had it been, I would not have posted. The ball got dropped again as I was told they found the box addressed to me but on a bottom shelf somewhere. I have a tracking number now so I hope all is good.

The guy they said was no longer there, is indeed no longer there. As soon as I saw your post I called, as I found your experience unacceptable. I asked for, and spoke with, Matthew as he is a higher up and my go to guy. A great contact there, BTW. He did assure me that he got it squared away for you and that they were on the way to you. Having them ship within 1 day, having called on a Monday, is very quick as shipping departments on Monday's are insanely backed up.
They are a very dedicated group of folks at Athlon who strive for personalized customer service. A shame your 1st experience with them was not smooth, however, enjoy the scope as I know you will.

If we can ever assist you always feel free to contact us. That's all part of us being here :)

Scopes break, we all know it.

It looks like some mistakes were made initially, but at the end of the day they did everything they could to make it right, and made every effort to compensate for the human error that we all experience and suffer from.

Sounds like good customer service to me.

First of all the scope did not break. I love the scope for the price point. Second of all, I just stated facts. It is to each his own to decide if the above scenerio is good or bad customer service.

I agree with you, anybody in your shoes would be pissed off or at best annoyed. Hopefully whoever Athlon hired now does a better job.

Some of the specs for the Ares BTR are incorrect on the website. My friend wanted to know how long and how much the weight difference between those two models were, so I called. I was surprised the guy I talked to, Jedd I think, had the actual specs written down. That was cool.

I had purchased a Midas scope new and found that it had a fog or glare issue along with not focusing very well beyond about 300 yards. I called Athlon and spoke to Matthew, what a great guy with super excellent customer service. Long story short, I ended up purchasing a Cronus while speaking with him and have been very happy with my purchase. So the other day I spied a second Cronus BTR on sale and it should be arriving in a few days. Thanks to Matthew and Athlon for some amazing customer service and great products. Next up later this year will be a new spotter..... Ooooh Athlon........

I understand your scope wasn't broken. I read your post. I guess I was just summarizing that every manufacturer has to meet a customer service expectation as well as a product quality expectation. No one has a perfect product, and no one has perfect customer service.

I was simply posting that in my opinion, they tried to compensate for their initial mistakes. The same mistakes every company makes from time to time, and did their best to make it right. Others can obviously be of a different opinion of course.

I have an Athlon Cronus 4.5-29X56 in MOA that Dustin helped me out with. I have yet to have issues with it. Dustin at Athlon emailed me a week after I got it just to ask how it was performing for me. Those guys at Athlon are great. A buddy of mine has a Midas BTR and needed new caps, they were sent out the next day and there were no issues. A+ for Athlon Optics!

This makes me so glad I bought my Cronos from Gr8fuldoug. It really is nice to see great customer service in this day and age.

Turrets arrived today with a 15% off card for next scope purchase.
Wow, that's what I call a great apology for having an issue and exceptional customer service. If you opt to get a Cronus BTR they basically gave you a $270.00 gift card for an error on sending you free upgraded turrets for a scope you bought used. That's awesome.

If we can assist you with your next 15% off Athlon purchase it would be our pleasure.

I seem to always be one scope short of enough. Maybe its because wayward rifles keep showing up in my safe? ;)
Any way, I used Cabela's points to try out one of the Athlon price point Ares scopes. I mounted it on my APA 223 Ackley that has always been a superbly accurate shooter. Not a big bruiser in the recoil dept but I still wondered about how it would track. Two range trips later and I am not skeptical any longer. It tracks perfectly (right on par with my NF and Vortex) and I like the positive clicks of the turrets. Dialing up a mil on the turret gives me a mil on the target and it moves straight up the scale every time. I think (but remember it's a sub $400 FFP optic) the performance of the glass is not so great and this model has a very tight eye-box. The magnification also seems to be slightly overstated but I have no way of proving that feeling. My only contact with CS was about two little white discs in the box. They said those were their attempt at a zero stop. I have not tryed them yet. Would I buy another? Maybe, but I would definitely move up in price and would want to have a hands on look first. Only because I have been a die hard NF/Vortex fan for many years.

You meant the Argos BTR, correct ??? The Ares BTR's are $800 to $850 MAP.
Yep these are great back up scopes, or appropriate for less expensive rifles. If a guy is used to running the more expensive brands these will work great for a stop gap optic.

I have the same problem, lol, a friend is borrowing my SWFA and another scope/not an Athlon, is back at the service dept for repair, so here I am short on scopes again.

No apology for having to wait 30 days for a part that was in stock and was told it was sent two times before. The fact that the scope was "used" has no effect on when they were supposed to send the turrets. That is the second time you have brought this up, will you explain why "used" matters when there is a transferable lifetime warranty. All I did was state facts for others.

Doug, these are your words. If you find the experience "unacceptable", then why should I apologize?

I never suggested you needed to apologize. There's nothing you need to apologize for.
I stated, "Wow, that's what I call a great apology for having an issue and exceptional customer service." , meaning that Athlon apologized with the 15% off card for their service guy not getting the replacement turret out to you .

Doug meant that it was a nice gesture by Athlon giving you the $270 gift card???!!! - Athlons way of apologizing, although I'm guessing you were verbally apologized to from someone at Athlon. Not that you needed to apologize at all for Athlons mistakes. But now you might want to say you are sorry to Doug, lol.

Yes sir, I did mean Argos. Thanks for setting me straight.
