Wish i had Joe's camera, love the photography. But you get the idea. Short 6.5s are freaking awesome. Currently running an 18" 6.5x47 and was shooting 123gr ELD M at 2840fps. I switched to 130s and am shooting for 2700fps. Makes for an awesome hunting rifle.

Nice animals what distance you shoot them at? What’s the weight of your rifle with scope?

Different guns and barrels but in a 17" 260 I'm getting 2480, 22" barrel is 2750 and 26" barrel is around 2825. Not positive one the last one since I lost the data when I switched phones. That's all the same load, 42.1 grains h4350 with a 142 smk.

I have 3 different 6.5x47 barrel lengths I can comment on. 27', 23.4' and 22'

The 27' barrel produced 2830fps with 142gr SMK's (41gr H4350)
The 23.4' barrel = 2775fps with 142gr SMK's (41gr H4350), 2795fps with 140gr RDF's (40.9gr H4350) & 2920fps with 130 JLK (42.3gr H4350).
Latest 22' barrel is new so I expect it to pick up some speed but running the same 142gr SMK load as above it produced 2713fps and 2810fps with 130gr JLK and 42gr H4350.

I'm switching to Varget for the 22' barrel and going to use 130JLK's and 130gr hybrids, aiming to get 2850fps without pushing the brass too hard.

20” 260/PRC pushing a 130gr plus a 5”-7” suppressor sounds like a nice happy medium.
Exactly what we’re putting together next! Dane is going all Carbon Fiber with a Tikka T3 action and I’m swapping my 21” Bartlein 5R in 6.5 SAUM and going either 20” or 22” with a Proof CF in 6.5 PRC.

Fingers crossed for elk this year!

I have a 24” CarbonSix 7twist 6.5PRC being spun up right now for my Nucleus action. Never had any experience with CarbonSix (also fingers crossed) but I do have a 20” 308 Proof on my GAP10. Seemed to shoot pretty decently for at AR10.

Any prior experience with CarbonSix? I haven’t heard any raving reviews about them. I just know they’ll spin a barrel and chamber it all for about the price of Proof blank.
This is my first Carbon Six barrel. I have several proofs and all have been great. I just wanted to try a Carbon Six.

Great thread keep the feed back coming in.

I've been kicking around the Idea of a 20" 6.5 as long as it can hold its own @1000 for F-Class ... right now the plan is a new .308 FTR build but if i can run a shorter barrel and kill multiple birds with one stone I'm game.

Looks like the "cool kids" over at Gunwerks think a 16.5" hunter is a viable idea.

Mine's at the smith, I'm soooo excited for it to be done! I think mine will be a fair bit lighter and about $7000-$8000 dollars cheaper.
A $14,000 truck gun. I would hate for that one to just walk off. I think i would rather keep the value of my truck gun slightly less lol.

I wouldnt do it. Have a longer barrel F-class rifle and get another for whatever else. Its best if you are playing games to have a rifle purpose built for that role only. At least if you are competitive. Now if its just to go out and compete with no intentions of winning ( which makes absolutely no sense to me), then compromise. This goes for any competition where equipment is invloved. Not just shooting sports.

Here is the rifle I just had built for me, have yet to shoot it but looking forward to it as soon as I get some time.
Bighorn TL3
Proof barrel 18"
MPA chassis (not sure I like how this fits me yet)
Omega suppressor
Trigger Tech Diamond
How does your rifle balance Minus the suppressor? I have almost identical rifle right now and consider a shorty carbon 6.5 barrel for hunting

Sometimes I think my firearms spending has gotten out of hand. Then I look at stuff like this and feel better. I thought a truck gun was supposed to be worth less than the truck.

Cross posted from another short 6.5CM thread...

This is from a Ruger Predator w/ factory barrel cut to 16.75" with the Omega hanging off the end. It was around 80* that day. The load showing is factory Hornady Match w/ 140gr ELD-M. This is also a 5-shot string.

I don't regret cutting the Ruger at all. I only shoot it with a can attached, so the short barrel is a welcome addition (subtraction?).

When I had that Ruger cut down last year, I didn't realize I'd be on the cutting edge of such a trend.
