Let's get these separate from the other 6.5mm loads

260 Rem Tacmatch chamber
260 rem brass
140gr berger vld .010" off the lands
Win LR primer
H4350 43.5gr

22" 5r 1:8 twist Bartlein 260 Tac-match reamer (LongRifles Inc. shop)

.260 Rem brass
CCI 200
140 Hornady Amax
42.3gr H4350

Vertical spread is less than 1/2 MOA out to about 600-700yd, then stays sub-MOA as far as I've shot it.

Here is most of the more complete data from the old site, organized by barrel length. I have edited it to a fairly standard format. I did not include ES/SD, COAL, or group size. I don't think they're important as your COAL limitations will be different from the next guy (and it's more work
). I did include jump/jam info because that is pertinent and useful to everyone. You're welcome.

H4350 is an extreme powder and doesnt get anywhere near the pressure variations with ambient temperature change. Also, H4350 just seems to produce such incredible results that nothing else seems to come close in terms of accuracy.

I wonder why it takes you almost 2 full grains more to get the same velocity as I get. 3" of barrel shouldn't make that big of a difference. I'm at the ragged edge of too hot at 43.5 on a 50 degree day.

Yeah, I don't know? I am fairly new to reloading;however, I ladder tested from 37.0 grn. up to 45.5 grn. At this upper end with the bullet jammed, I began to see slight pressure signs in the form of of the rear of the brass (headstamp) being worn or shiney. When I settled on 45.2 grn. and the bullet was jumped 0.020", the pressure signs were not present.

I don't have all my data here with me, but at 42.5 grn. and the 24" barrel the MV was 2,724 fps.

Genochrist, what is your COAL? This may also be a factor as my bullet is seated fairly long at 2.922".

Just recently worked up a load for Re-17. Seems to do quite well. Certainly well enough to use in colder weather so I can conserve my supply of H4350. It seems to get harder to get every year.

Also, there was a really good topic section on the old site specifically for people who were shooting and developing loads for the Sako TRG 22 Remington 260. Not necessarily the re-barreled versions, but mostly the 200 that were factory. Anyone know if that is around somewhere? Thanks

I don't know about these other guys but I didn't happen to use H4350 by accident or just by listening to others. I tried a few powders and a few bullets and a few primers to get where I am at. H4831sc I'd the one I tried and while it was about as accurate as H4350 it never did get the same speed. I talking a minimum of 5 , 5 shot groups averages. It does work for some guys and for others it doesn't. That's why we see all different powders in this thread, RL17, 19, H4350, H4831... Not ever gun likes the same diet.

I have a L-W 28" 1:8" LW-50 Savage varmint weight profile .260 Rem Barrel that I will be reinstalling on my original Ghost Dancer rifle this Spring. When last fired, it liked the 142SMK about .010" off lands over 43.8gr and 43.9gr of H-4350. Brass is necked down Win 7-08 with CCI BR-2's.

I will redo the load development from scratch for the HDY 140, SRA 142, and HDY 95. The above load was a very quick redevelopment of the load the rifle used with its original Savage Factory 24" 1:8" barrel. The original 24" barrel load was the final selection from loads with Ramshot Hunter, H-4831SC, and H-4350.

I had really liked the H-4831SC development chapter, because it achieved its excellent accuracy with minimal pressure signs. But velocities were off quite a bit. This was inconsequential until I started shooting 1000yd with the original 24" barrel.

I never revisited H-4831SC in the longer barrel, and I think that now would be a good time to try that.

At the time the 24" barrel was in use, I got to 50gr of H-4831SC (C*) under the 142SMK (Pressure testing, mostly) without alarming pressure signs. I'd love to see if the 28" barrel can maintain the moderate pressure signs at that charge level, and whether good accuracy can be found with it.

My experience with H-4831SC was that once I was on an accuracy node, it was very accurate. I just figured (probably unnecessarily) that I needed higher velocities than I was getting.

Disclaimer: This barrel is a custom made for me by L-W specifying a SAAMI chamber, which is generally a tad more forgiving than a match chamber with a narrower neck.

It is strongly advised that one set of load data developed for a specific barrel is NOT applicable to any other barrel, and that attempting to ignore this advice has the potential for compromising safety.

That's not the first time I've heard that... Like I said though, I don't have a chrony or shoot with many guys that do, so 3000 fps is my best guess based on a G7 BC= 0.282 and nearly spot on dope out to 960 yds (960: Ballistic= 7.06 Mils / Actual= 7.1-7.2 Mils). I've seen a few others report similar velocities out from similar setups/loads, a couple of whom I have no reason to doubt, like Pat Sinclair. That's not to say my actual velocity couldn't be off, but I don't think it'd be by much. I don't consider it a hot load either... No swipe, no flow, no stiff bolt, year round. The only time I've ever had a stiff bolt lift with this load was during a shoot in some pretty heavy rain with no cover. Brass was wet, gun was wet, lift got stiff. Just cracked my 3rd box of Lapua brass, getting 6 loads before it gets too tight to chamber. I only chamfer the case mouth and neck size, no trimming. I'll probably get my 200 old cases annealed and run them through the body die to squeeze a few more loads out of 'em.

So I had a little bad luck with some loads. This is a brand new AR10 I built in .260 with a Bergara barrel. I started load development with H4831sc and IMR4064 because that is all I could get my hands on. I started at 44, 45, and 46 grains of 4831sc and 35 and 36 grains of 4064 loaded with a 140gn VLD to max mag length. This is a gas gun so I know it will act a little different but even at 44gns I had pressure signs, I am using a SLR adjustable gas block but all the loads cycled fine. I have now acquired a few pounds of H4350 so I will start load development with that. As you can see in the picture the pressure was cratered primers. I did shoot more than I probably should have but I didn't even touch the 46gns of 4831sc. You can see the load data on the lid of the box.

These were all suppressed with a SDN-6.

Does anyone have any gas gun loads? Thanks.

For those guys who neck size - what size neck bushing for Redding Comp dies are you using with Lapua Brass? I'm about to get a .260 BBL for an AI AT and am in the process of picking up all the components.

If you had to choose ONE powder - what would it be? H4350, H4831SC, other? I need something temp insensitive as the temps through the year vary quite a lot (Vegas) going from the 30s and 40s in the winter to 110 in the summer.

Also, I found some H-4831 but not the SC and am tempted to get it. If weighing the charges from a CM1500 or measuring on a scale, are the longer grains going to be an issue with consistency?

Thanks in advance!

There were no overpressure signs, but this is above book max. Use extreme care if you have this rifle and go searching for the next higher node to get more speed. I think this is about what you can expect to get with a 20" barrel unless you use RL-17.

NOTE: if you use RL-17 with this rifle and get more speed, pls send me a PM with your load.

Bartlein 22" 1:8 twist 5r barrel, M5 Mausingfield build.

Hornady 140gr HPBT @ 2.810" COAL (15-20 thou jump)

Lapua brass neck turned to .015 thickness (.294 loaded round, .292 neck bushing)

43.8gr H4350

CCI 200

MV: 2853 fps (Magnetospeed)

ES: mid/high 20's

SD 8-10fps

Accuracy right around 1/2 MOA at distance so far. I have only shot it at 100 and 250. I plan to explore further this week/weekend. I loaded up as far as 44.5gr and was not getting any signs of pressure (round primer corners, no cratering, no ejector slot stamp). This is considerably hotter and faster than my last .260 and I think I may have to bump down a node for the summer.

All,

Found a great load for my .260 Rem and thought I'd share. Perhaps it will be a forgiving one and work in many other .260's.

As always, work up to the listed charge to make sure it's safe in YOUR rifle.

-Lapua Brass

-GM210M

-43.0GR H4350

130 Berger AR Hybrid

2.289 BTO

I neck turn to 6 thousands total diametrical clearance after a bullet is seated but it doesn't matter, this load shoots lights out.

Over 2,900 fps in my 24" Krieger.

Groups at distance are extremely good as well.

Yep that's 4 shots from 100! 103 actually as I was angled left of the target from where I was shooting. Measured .119 MOA on OnTarget. I have tried a multitude of loads with the .260 including H/IMR 4350, Varget, and others, and many bullets including 139/136L/123 Scenar, 140 Berger VLD and Hybrid, Barnes Match Burner 140's, SMK's, AMAX 140's, and some other boutique boolit companies, but these 130 bergers over a stout load of H4350 seem to be the best shooting rounds I've sent through mine. The best thing about this load is it performs exceptionally well at 1000 yards (some of the 123 loads were extremely accurate out to 800 or so but not as much at 1000. This one seems to be the sweet spot).

Might as well throw these in: Rifle used AW w/ 22.5" Bartlien 1:8 so here goes;

Lapua case
Federal 210 primer
Hornady 140 hpbt match/Berger 140 Hybrid
2.900 o.a.l.
H4350 @ 41.5 grains
2725/ 2720 respective to bullet listed above
S/D on both is 9.8

Lapua
210
Berger 140 Hybrid
2.900
H4350 @ 42.5
2735 fps
S/D 8.4

Lapua
210
Hornady 140 Match
2.900
AA4350 @ 42.8
2733 fps,
S/D 9.4

Had to edit, barrel is half way through its life span so I re-chrono'd my go to loads.

Yup, already been there. The max load they are listing with a 140gr bullet is 42.0gr or H4350. Almost every load for H4350 is decently above 42.0gr so I was wondering if it was listed in a book like that or if they worked up past what the manufacturer recommended.

Savage model 10 with 26" Shilen (Ratchet rifled) (Tactical match reamer I think)
 • Berger 140 VLD seated .060 off lands
 • Federal GMM .308 brass sized down to .260, necks turned to .014
 • 42.5 grains of H4350 ( I start to see pressure at 43.5 in hot weather)
 • CCI standard large rifle primers
This load gave me a SD of 6 with an average velocity of 2853 fps. Gave me a 7 inch vertical spread at 1K.

Rifle: Trued Rem700, 24" Bartlein, 1-8 twist in a KRG X-Ray chassis

Rifle is chambered in .260 Lapua versus .260 Remington, so it has a slightly tighter chamber.

140 Hornady ELDs
Lapua Brass
Fed 210 non-match primers
43.5gr H4350
+0.03 jump to lands

1/2 MOA easy, average velocity 2820 fps with a SD of 11.

*did not sort brass or bullets in this load for weight or bearing surface

Still playing with the Berger 140 VLDs. I think they will only want a +0.01 jump with same powder charge.

Is 2,820 FPS too fast for .260 Rem and 142 grain SMK's (too fast barrel wear)?

I completed load dev on my new (re-barreled) Brux .260 Rem barrel. I'm getting no pressure signs, even in 90 degree heat. My velocity is 2,820 FPS with a 2 SD. I'm getting a 2" vertical spread @ 600 yards for 10 rounds. With this velocity, am I going to be burning out my barrel significantly faster than a lower node? Any thoughts? My lower node is 41.7 grains @ 2,760 FPS. Here is the load details:

142 SMK jumped .010" to lands

Lapua Brass and CCI200 primers

42.9 grains H4350

Depends on how hard you run it and how far you want to shoot. I pull mine off between 2100 - 2400 rounds. I had one that only went 1800 rounds before it gave up. I've had 8 barrels between 2 match rifles, Run hard! You are at a good speed for that bullet and you should have good barrel life. You have to be realistic in what you expect out of a barrel and the accuracy and speed over its life. For me, once my speed decays below 60fps or it wont hold 1/2 MOA or better at 100 yards it comes off.

My Load:

43.5 H4350

Tula primers

Lapua Brass

142 SMK

1:8 Bartlein and 1;825 Proof Barrels

.090 Freebore, My reamer, set up for Lapua Brass and 142's

2870fps lab radar and magneto speed

.015 off the lands, set it and shoot for the life of the barrel.

SD 5, ES 12

Starting development for ELD-X with Hornady 7-08 brass (necked to .260 case spec), H4350 (43.0gr starting load), CCI BR-2.

Barrel is L-W 28", 1-8" SAAMI chamber. mounted on trued Savage 10FP action (2001 origin).

I am concerned with the seating depth; with the seater set for 142SMK's, the bullet seats so deep the entire boat tail protrudes below the shoulder depth.

This is still early days, so some experimentation with seating jump and COAL is in order. Would like to try to get it to feed from the magazine, but will single feed if .020" jump and powder compression make it necessary.

Some review of previous posts here suggest 43.5gr max and 2850FPS likely.

Greg

PS, edited to add:

Just completed setting up the RL550B, and preliminary mag length testing shows that 2.850" OAL feeds, and does not contact the rifling. I'm going to leave the OAL there for now. Three dummy rounds in the 2001 10FP action all feed acceptably. Pressure testing beginning at 42.0gr of H-4350 is the next issue being addressed. Testing will eventually evolve to develop a 300m/328yd zero, max distance at a retired Army reserves base near the Border, and trying for distances out to 1300yd here at our 4800ft local altitude. I have miles of dry lake/bombing range to work with, less than 1 mile away.

After reviewing the Hodgdon site, I have built one each load in .5gr increments from 42.0 to 44.5gr (Hodgdon published Max for H4350 and 142gr bullets) of H-4350 for pressure testing.

Tried 120 TTSX, 127 LRX, 130 VLD, 140 VLD, 130 Swift Sirocco, 140 ELD-M and 143 ELD-X and all would shoot under 1/2 with very little load devolopment and at magazine COAL. Used this rifle and load to harvest every large game animal in Maine this year (Black bear, Bull moose, and a smasher Buck) Brass rarely seems to grow in this chamber, on my 10th cycle of first 50 brass only neck sizing each time and it's still G2G. I'll dig up some targets and add then to this post.

I appreciate the posts and data.

Right now, the 143 ELD-X project is on hold while prep is underway for getting my Granddaughter to her first National Level F-T/R event, the SW LR Nationals at Ben Avery in Phoenix first week of February. We shoot the MR 600yd day matches, using O/O Box rifles, a Stag .223 Model 6 Super Varminter (for her) and a Savage 11VT .223 (mine). Handloads are being used, new Win brass, 75gr HDY HPBT-Match, CCI BR-4, 24.4gr Varget. Wish us luck.

This has been my starting load since having the rifle. Accuracy has been good, will probably try working up to a grain more and see what she'll do. I know I'm limited on performance with the 20" barrel.

SD is about 8 to 10 depending on which shot group you look at.
100 Yard zero yields a 5.1m hold at 700y, and 12.2mil hold at 1200 yards.
Absolute pressure is 23.77 to 24 most days

Being new to long range shooting and reloading for it, I notice a lot of people using H 4350 but not Accurate 4350 can someone tell me why? Also this my seem like a real silly question but is it recommended to resize new brass? I just acquired a Tikka CTR in 260 and I'm just getting started in loading for bolt guns. I've been a handgun reloader for 40 years, but I don't think a Dillon 650 is going to work here. Thanks Ed

To confirm, this is with a 26" barrel?

I have a LaRue tOBR in .260 with the 22" barrel. While it shoots the factory Hornady 130gr ELD-M really well, I'm working a load with the same 130g ELD-M projectiles, as well as some other bullets.

The rifle really liked:

Peterson brass, F210M, H130 ELD-M, 42.2g of H4350 loaded to 2.775 COAL.

That combo (but I only tested three rounds) averaged 2806fps, which is a sweet spot for my gasser versus some of the hotter loads. I'm going to shoot that load again this weekend but I'm going to try loading to a 2.184 BTO versus COAL.

As a side note, the virgin Peterson, in that load combo, seems to shoot about 10-20fps faster than virgin Lapua brass.

These have been reported to also perform well in the .260 tOBR:

Berger 130 AR Hybrid
42.9g Reloder 16
CCI 200 Primer
Hornady .260Rem Brass
2.184 to the Ogive

Hornady 130 ELD-M
40.8g of H4350
F210M
Peterson brass
2.79 COAL

Hornady 140 HPBT
35.8g Varget
F210M
Peterson Brass
2.80 COAL

130 Sierra TMK
F210M
47.0 gr 4831sc

As always, your mileage will vary.

I'm surprised that there isn't any new info on the 147 gr. Hornady ELD Match bullets out of a 260. I bought some and will be working up a load. I've got some H4350 to try with the load development.

Some 147 ELD-M data from my new Shilen 26" barrel.

All loads at 2.950

Barrel has less than 100 rounds though it so far.
Necked up Winchester 243 brass.
CCI#200.

4831SC
46 2670 was looking for high limit and I plan on going higher now
45.2 2623
44.8 2592

4451
42.4 2652
42.2 2634
41.8 2608
plan in going higher with 4451 as well

My old barrel liked 140 eld's and 42.5 of 4451.
Low node.
New barrel also likes this load and I'll use it for short distance shots.
New barrel is getting 2690 with that load and did two 3/4 moa 10 shot groups back to back with a SD of 10.

I'd like to get the 147's to 2750ish for my longer distance loads
All the 4831SC loads had really low SD's but looking at primers and brass I'm not sure it will get me there.
A bit more headroom to go but probably not enough.

The 4451 looks lower in pressure at the higher load by a fair bit.

I just picked up some 143 ELD X. I'll have to work up to this load in my TSR1
Let us know how it works. I'm working on a 147 ELD load now. Latter testing shows that I have a good node around 44 grains. Shots 8, 9, and 10 where at 43.8, 44, and 44.2
The second pic was the entire 10 shot group at 100. That is almost 2 full grains in powder charge difference. Something tell me the 147s are going to shoot. :)

I was just about to question running that much powder in mine and not having any pressure signs. I have seen most people running around 43 grs and not many over the 44 mark. I ran 44.4 grs of H4350 with an average of 3016 and an sd of 9 this past weekend. I am going to try to go up towards 44.8 and see what happens.

I went as high as 45.5 during OCW testing with no pressure signs and diminishing returns in velocity. YMMV
