Tell me about Horus (Angle Slope Level Indicator)

    Any opinions on this setup?

I was thinking on buying it and using the Picatinny side rail.
Any insight in how this mount works?
Is this set up permanent? Can the unit be removed for storage easily?

Re: Tell me about Horus (Angle Slope Level Indicator)

The only one I've ever seen on someone's scope was busted at the time (ACI was stuck and didn't rotate.) It's pretty big, even relative to the SniperTool ACI and from what I saw wouldn't be inclined to frequent removal/reinstallation. I was initially attracted to the "all in one" unit but seeing one in person disinclined me to purchase one.

Re: Tell me about Horus (Angle Slope Level Indicator)

I have both the Horus ASLI and the Sniper Tools ACI.

The Horus is definitely larger than the Sniper Tools ACI but it is easier to read, has both cosine & angle scales, integrated level and the cover has held up well to abuse. I thought for sure that I would break it but it has held up.

Anyway they both work for me and I like having the level/ACI all in one with the Horus.

Either way you will be fine in my opinion.

    Is it pretty robust?

My H-ASLI are for play and they don't get bashed around but They've worked well for me.No problems. They are a little big but that would be my only gripe.

I used it for a little while too - seemed to work good - i didn't have a side focus knob so it sat right in view for me. It was a little big looking... too bad the liquid wasn't the green like the uso anti cant.

    Fotis,

Everybody has a different view, and how to get the same thing accomplished. My rule of thumb is the bigger something is, and the more functions the one thing does, the more prone to failure it becomes.

And the Horus ASLI is a bigger honker. My solution is less elegant, but more robust.

I use a USO rail mounted level. For computing angles, I use my Mildot Master, w/fishing line and a small weight attached to the pivot point.

I like simple, and robust, others my chose differently.....

The one I had was large, and the spirit bubble had to be split to be level. Not like most construction levels where you put the bubble inside of two lines. I sold mine because I was alwaya distracted trying to split the bubble evenly on the single line.

Re: Tell me about Horus (Angle Slope Level Indicator)

Looked to big and not as sturdy as the Sniper Tools ACI. Also, what is the point of having angles in degrees (even on the Sniper Tools ADI version)? Any method I know of that doesn't involve a PDA, such as the IRR, uses the cosine. I found the ST ACI easy to mount, although with the Badger mount I had to remove my scope from the rail first. At least it was right on zero when the rifle/rail were horizontal.

Some versions of software provided for input only in degrees. Now most versions will accept angular input either in degrees or the cosine of the angle.

Get a MdM and a B-Square rail level, total spent is less than 60 bucks, you need a MdM, and the B-Square level can be found for around 22 bucks delivered.

How does a MDM help you with the you angle you are at?

Re: Tell me about Horus (Angle Slope Level Indicator)

Look at the picture on this page of the back of the MDM:

    http://www.mildotmaster.com/

You put a piece of string in the upper left-hand corner, and a weight on the end of the string. You sight along the top edge toward the target, and read the angle on the scale, which is calibrated in one degree increments.

For me, Horus has bad customer service. I would not buy from them, ever.

Re: Tell me about Horus (Angle Slope Level Indicator)

If I were to buy this unit I would only employ the side rail mount. Like I said I was hoping that doing so, I can easily unattach it off the side rail mount for storage. I have to figure out how it mounts in the first place. For $70 it is not bad.

Or I can pay $200 for this

Kick the picture over to the right (it's laying on the side that attaches to ALSI)
