    What's Your View II

Just finished up a 3 day 600+ mile charter on the Yukon. The last 109 miles home I got to run light and solo. Took these on the move so not the best, but it was a great evening cruising the river. First pic is the “Bone Yard”, took the longer route to see them and look for any mammoth remains...

Help a hunter choose his scope

Personally, I prefer to have a lower end on the variable magnification with hunting optics. Never know when you’ll need to put one in a critters noggen who’s hiding in the pickers. Given the two choices, I’d take the bushy for that reason.

    What's Your View II

I do not miss horse flies or deer flies one bit. Good looking trap. The water finally came up enough to wash most of the ice away and I was able to use the loader to make a hole big enough to get the boat in. Still lots of drift, both ice and trees/wood so you’ve got to keep your eyes open...

I’ve still got snow if you’re missing it!

What the hell happened there. That looks like it’s going to sting a little.

    What's Your View II

Ice finally got underway for good. Left quite a mess. Hopefully the river level rises enough to wash some of this away so I can get a boat in next week.

The river ice started moving here last night. The ice upriver is still in place but the ice down river has shifted. It gets interesting when the upriver portion comes crashing in here.

I was going to say if you look at his feet he’s not really large in stature, but he sure has been eating well.

If that thing was 2” taller it’d be round. Looks like a fuel drum with legs.

The 346 is a great saw. Used to use those as my climbing/topping saws. Ran a bunch of 268’s, 272’s, 371’s, 372’s, and 288 lites. Had a 394 on the yard for rquartering big pasture pine butts so the mill would take them for pulp. Too big otherwise. Makes me ache thinking about going back to that...

    Idaho spring bear

Very nice! I’ll have to check out the Montreal steak seasoning. Always looking for another way to season critters.

I’m not entirely sure how much he weighs. Probably every bit of 7’ and 400-450 when he’s fall fat. The interior bears don’t usually get as large as your PNW coastal bears do. He’s a toad of a bear being from the interior. I’ll bet he’s pretty hard on moose calves. That griz was from early May...

    What's Your View II

Oh, I’ve had a reticle on him quite a few times. Watched him for over an hour through the scope last fall during moose season. If he hadn’t been into those rotten chum all last summer and fall his quarter would’ve run out long ago. Keeping an eye out this spring but so far no sign. I’ll let you...

Was out looking for where he’s moving this spring. So far no luck. Set up and did some calling just in case he’s in the area. You can see where the bears have been digging out the bank swallow nets.

Saw this big black bear on and off last summer but he was eating a lot of half rotten salmon so I gave him a pass. Here’s his tracks last fall during freezeup just upriver from my house.

I’m jealous of some of you that are getting to shoot without ice and snow. I’m ready for things to change, but it’s been taking its sweet time. It’s starting to show a little more on the river.
