    Bad Cut rifled AR15 barrel?

100%. Have it literally printed on a 2-3 page instruction sheet that came with barrel. I'm very familiar with JB and have used on several barrels with good effect but never a cut rifling barrel; only button pulled or hammer forged barrels. Pretty sure it's going back to the shop to have a...

    Bad Cut rifled AR15 barrel?

Thanks for the replies. The smith ships his barrels with instructions on this method so I followed them assuming that the 1000's of barrels they sell would have proven this the effective technique for break-in and cleaning. I've used JB on multiple rifles but never a cut rifled barrel. I'm...

    Bad Cut rifled AR15 barrel?

So need some advice here: rebarreled my AR15 with a high-end cut rifled barrel. I'm going to withhold barrel/smith until I have further resolution as they are super willing to help as needed and, frankly, very well known (here and elsewhere) with solid reputation. Build is an Aeroprecision...

MSR 10 Barrel Swap - Extension Dimensions?

Any luck on getting the barrel off?

    6.5 Grendel vs 224 Valkyrie

I'm leaning towards @lash and @Niles Coyote on this one... Nato/223Wylde pressure max is 62,366 PSI and the Valkyrie is ~54,500 PSI. Lighter bullets moving has typically have more wear than heavies moving "slower", so it seems like standard theory would suggest about the same barrel life as...

    .224 Valkyrie

I thought the same thing. I'll run through Quickload using factory brass capacity, Hodgdon seating depth and standard settings to see how closely they match. Any specific powders/bullets you want me to check?

Good points. I'll be patient and reserve judgment until they "officially" release data.

    .224 Valkyrie

I'm a bit surprised that CFE 223 seems to take cake across the board for best velocities in the 69+ grain bullets. But perhaps more surprising, is that NONE of the powders shown push a 90gr bullet to 2700 out of a 24" test barrel. That's either conservatism on Hodgdon's part, they don't make a...

    Valkyrie brass: Federal vs Starline

Ive reloaded a lot over the last 10 years but have not had any cartridges grow this much from Virgin to once fired. I thought it could be related to my chamber but it's in the exact middle of spec. Have really only used Lapua, Hornady and Starline where it mattered for precision, so in my...

Just spoke with their CS team: awesome service. Super friendly and very fast reply. No word on "accuracy" as they only test for pressure. But here is the data:

I just happened upon the Johnny's Reloading Bench video () and the charge weight for the factory SMK was measured at 26.2gr which is IDENTICAL to the nodes I found for the 90gr SMK with CFE. Given that info, it seems that for a similar powder (spheroid/flake combo with slightly slower burn...

    Labradar

That's a pretty good test. I didn't seem like they tested anything other than the .338 though. The larger bullet will have a very large surface area relatively. It's too bad they didn't test smaller calibers. Good post!

    Labradar

Yes Doppler is giving "pure" velocity - via Doppler calculations - but the offset could be utilized 1) as a correction for the angle of the projectile through the radar field, and/or 2) reference for accoustic time delay (time for sound to reach radar). I'm nearly certain the mic is used as a...

    Labradar

The speeds registered by a Doppler radar are based off Doppler shift so the measurement is "instant" for all practical purposes. @FromMyColdDeadHand is correct that it is "continuously measuring" in the sense that any signal return has a shift which can derive speed. The data sampling rate is...

    .224 Valkyrie Mags

+1 on PRI 6.8 mags. They accept an OAL of 2.300" with a few thousandths to spare. Good if your running 88ELDM because they are 1.24" long and even at 2.3" they are jumping a bit in a SAAMI chamber/throat. I have 2 - 10 rounders and a 15 rounder. Work and function flawlessly out of the bag.

Aero barrel nut enhanced handguard setup

If it's a "standard" Upper M4E1 (not enhanced) then shims as needed. The "M4E1 Enhanced" has female threads on the upper and a large flared receiver that barrel extension slides into. No shims required for that upper because the handguard mountain directly to the upper with 8 Torx screws...

    Criterion Prefit Barrel Nut System

It's coming along fairly well. The 6 groove barrel seems to run slightly slower than a few others but faster than factory barrel for sure. I've only run the 140 VLD and 123 SMK (not great with the SMK) so I want to try a few other bullets to see if I can tighten it up. Couldn't get much...
