Shit, it’s worth more than my pickup!

    Finishing a Blank McMillan Stock

Thanks! It definitely looks more aggressive than it feels. Once you knock all the “peaks” off with a file it mellows it out a bunch.

    Just given a Winchester model 70 30-06

It’s a really solid action and I have been more than happy with the build I did on mine. If you’re willing to wait for a stock, McMillan’s m70 inlet is second to none. I know ptg and cdi both make DBM bottom metal if that’s your thing. The action does need to be modified slightly to make it...

    My "Red Dawn" Build

What’s your ratio of competition to hunting and how serious are you about competing? You’re not really gonna build a serious competition rifle that’s gonna be fun to use in the field. As skookum stated, you’re sacrificing a lot of barrel life with some of the 6.5s. Especially the 6.5x284. The...

    Wind River movie gun question?

I do the same. That or safari carry. Keeps a heavier rifle ready and distributes it’s weight nicely. I don’t even have sling studs. Just in the way most times.

    6.5 "Shorty" Rifle build

Thanks SLG. Correct on both accounts. Stock is standard fill. Weighs about 30 ounces.

    Winchester post ‘64 rifles?

Thank you. The barrel is a proof research. McMillan makes a bunch of good m70 stocks, but chassis systems are definitely limited.

    Winchester post ‘64 rifles?

Have had this one since I was 12 and killed a lot of animals with it before I built on the receiver. Loving it in its new configuration.

Scuff with a red scotch brite and use a good adhesion promoter prior to paint. You can make an impromptu oven with a cardboard box and a heat gun (keep an eye on it obviously) but that should help speed up the dry time. The sponge camo method is another good option if you like that style. It’s...

Thanks! The texture is Devcon. I have a thread on the whole stock finishing process in the DIY forum.

    6.5 "Shorty" Rifle build

Just finished mine up. Not exactly what you’re looking for but close. 20” proof barreled 6.5x55 on an m70. 9.92 pounds as pictured.

    Finishing a Blank McMillan Stock

I was on Gunstox looking for a stock for my model 70 hunting rifle and found a McMillan Varmint that looked like it would fit the bill. The action and bottom metal inlets were right so I took a chance on it. I was really happy with the shape of it when it arrived so I set about getting it...

    Stock Texturing Service

I’ll be putting together a complete stock finishing DIY within the next couple weeks if you want to hold out and see if it’s something you think you can handle. The texturing is very easy with the proper equipment.

Most Accurate Bolt Gun for around $1000?

Howa 1500 barreled action from brownells in a Bell and Carlson with CDI bottom metal would be my choice. I recently put one together for a friend and it’s a nice little setup. The threaded creedmoor is out of stock at the moment but that would be a good option...

    Rifle painting, advice welcome!

A good adhesion promoter also makes all the difference with the rattle can stuff. Knock the gloss off the stock with Scotch Brite, apply adhesion promoter per instructions on the can and then top coat as usual. The sponge style camouflage hides the eventual wear very well.

Manners Composite Stocks Estimated Lead Times

Haven’t paid for it. Supposed to be bedded and shipped tomorrow. At this point I just want my action back. Don’t really give two shits about the stock.

Manners Composite Stocks Estimated Lead Times

Yup. Just contacted them to get my barreled action back and bought a McMillan. Seems we’re small fish now since they started getting deals with Nosler, CZ, etc. can’t even get Tom to reply to a PM anymore. Shame really.
