    Remington 700 Bolt Handle Replacement

I have a Remington 700 SPS 22-250 that I bought from another guy recently and I am going through it and upgrading some parts on it (stock, trigger, etc).

I tried to do some searching online briefly but came up short-handed. I could find replacement bolt knobs that thread onto the end of a pre-existing bolt handle but as you know, the factory 700 bolt is not threaded and cannot accept these replacement knobs.

Where can I order a replacement bolt handle for my Rem 700 SPS 22-250 and how much do they typically run?

You are not just going to throw on a bolt handle in your garage.

Your best bet is to send your bolt to someone and have them do the necessary modifications for a knob.

There are 2 basic ways to do it. Turn/mill existing knob down to 5/16, and thread it. Or cut the existing knob off, drill and tap a hole in the end of the handle, and install a stud, then butt the new knob to the handle.

Both ways are sufficient for using a factory handle, though some factory handles have poor quality castings which may lend itself to breaking using the external threading method.

There are many smiths that are capable here, I had Keith at PCR do mine, as he was/is just getting started.

ETA: if your set on a new handle you could start with PTG, and look for alternatives if you wish.

Actually, you CAN do it in your garage. If you have the time and a few basic tools. I did one not too long ago. PM me if you are interested and I can email you the instructions I used. With that said, it is money well spent to have someone do it for you.

Next time you need to search, try this one. It's a ton better than the basic search here.

I'd be interested in the bolt handle install instructions. I have done the knob install myself, but don't know if I would attempt a handle install myself, with the tools I have currently anyway.

Re: Remington 700 Bolt Handle Replacement

To install another bolt handle you must first heat and remove the original and then silver solder on another, you must also keep in mind the critical alignment of the handle to the bolt when soldering it back on. It is a real process that should only be undertaken by someone who knows what they're doing. You do not want to be in the field and the handle falls off when racking a round do to a poor soldering job.

Benchmark barrels can thread the bolt knob. Then you can choose the bolt knob.

Phoenix custom did two for me. Turn around was super fast and both knobs look professional and have held up very well. I highly recommend them.
