    Kestrel 5700 Hornady 4DOF - Worth it?

I bought the 4DOF Kestrel during the preorder. It's really a decent calculator. Most of the bullets I use are in their library, which is really helpful. If you know going in that it isn't the Elite (nor are you paying the extra $$$), you can decide if it's something you want. You do not have...

    Recommend a range finder please

I'll be the guy who makes the Vortex 4000 recommendation lol. I've owned a Sig and a Leica before I bought the Vortex, and so far, I'm happy with it. I don't need it to connect to my Kestrel. I don't need it to have a ballistic computer built into it. All I need it to do is give me an accurate...

Official (DTA) SRS, HTI, Covert, Hunter Thread

I used to. The only reason I haven't lately is my days off changed, so I work on Saturdays, but I've been shooting them since Ryan first started holding them back in 2014? 2015? Back before it was Pikes Peak Precision Rifles or PRS style matches. I used my DT for quite a few matches, and still...

Official (DTA) SRS, HTI, Covert, Hunter Thread

I'll second Fred! I've bought bullets, powder, primers, my MagnetoSpeed, a Kestrel, a Feisol tripod, and lord knows what else from him. When I sold my gen 1 because I wanted the A1, I took yet another drive up to Fred's and picked it up. Every time I go, I end up spending an hour or two just...

6.5 creedmoor brass - Alpha vs Lapua vs Peterson

I bought 600 Alpha when they were first introduced. I'm on my 5th firing with no issues whatsoever. I anneal every other firing. I also have 400 Lapua. I see no difference over the chrono as far as velocities, SD, or ES are concerned. The Alpha takes quite a bit less powder to get to 2840 fps...

    Does LabRadar have any competition?

If I remember correctly, Frank tried the Two Box chrono several years ago when it was first released and the review wasn't overly positive. I seem to recall the summary was basically "it reads the velocity accurately when it's set up properly, but setting it up properly takes far more effort...

    Kestrel 4DOF wind direction question

    Thanks, @Kestrel Ballistics

    Kestrel 4DOF wind direction question

I was shooting the Sporting Rifle Match at Raton last weekend, which prompts this question. If you've ever shot there, you know certain firing positions are completely surrounded by trees, so the wind can be howling downrange, but you'll never be able to get wind speed at the firing line. You'll...

    Does LabRadar have any competition?

By competition, I'm assuming you mean a relatively handheld, portable doppler radar device? If that's what you mean, then I don't believe so (I'm sure there are similar devices, or attempts to make a device in the past, that I'm unaware of that someone on here will mention). If you mean a...

    Buying Hornady bulk bullets

I bought a box of 2000 ELDMs from someone (Midsouth, maybe?) and what showed up was just a box full of bullets. I found the same issues as 702 did. Boattail lengths, base to ogive, bearing surface length, etc., were all over the place. It was like someone grabbed twenty random boxes of 100 and...

The End Of Wind Calling? -Trijicon Ventus -

If you're hearing it'll go past 500, then I'm sure the "max of 500" is the lawyer-speak, if you will. Your last sentence is HUGE, but I do admit I like that they tried. It wasn't terribly long ago the list of "top tier" scopes pretty much started and ended with S&B. Yeah, I owned a Premier and...

The End Of Wind Calling? -Trijicon Ventus -

@Vamike9 slight correction in your original post: it can read wind up to a max of 500 yards, not at a minimum. Maybe with more particulates in the air it can reach further.

Match Burner/ RDF/ Cheap target bullet

I've used the 112 and 140 Match Burners. I really, REALLY like the 112s in my 6XC. My normal load uses the 115 DTAC with 39.2 grains of H4350, BR2 primers, and Peterson LRP brass. My load didn't change at all when I used the 112s. Drop was identical between the two. If I remember correctly, the...

    25 Creedmoor Load Development

While the initial stretch is a bit long, it's the repeated sizing, specifically oversizing and forcing it to stretch every time, that will eventually compromise the "case head separation" line. Just keep a bent paper clip on your bench to check.
