Shooting a .50 cal BMG in Virginia, W.VA or MD

Does anyone know where I can shoot my .50 cal BMG at super long distances? 300-1000 yards? Up to 2000 yards would be great as well. I would pay for private land use.

Are there any .50 cal shooters in the Northern Virginia area that would like to shoot?

Thanks a million ~ Paul Russ

Why are you linking that site? Just curious because it seems a bit like SPAM to me when someone comes on in their first posts linking to a site I presume to advertise.

I'm located in SW Virginia and shoot my .50 BMG at a range just outside Roanoke. 500 yards is the max. You may want to post that question on the Fifty Caliber Shooter's Association website. You have to be a member, but there are alot of VA shooters that post there.

It is usually zeroed in at 100 yards. Is that wrong?

    Thanks ~ Paul

I zero all my rifles at 100 yards, including the 50 BMG and 338 LM.

    Paul,

You can shoot your 50 on Quantico's range 4 at 800, 900 & 1k during the "modified" F-Class matches. Next one will probably be Sept 6.

There are also regular 50 Cal benchrest matches. Ask "Prospector" here to put you on his mailing list. http://www.snipershide.com/forum/ubb...vate&User=4366

50 bmg should be zeroed at 200 yards.

We have a 1,000 yard club between Fairmont and Morgantown, WV. It is a private club, but relatively inexpensive to join. A lot of great guys, and some good shooters. The range is about 5 minutes from my house. Tom.

Interested in same topic, with the following expansion: are their restrictions to shooting .50bmg on private land? Know some folks with farms, etc.

Nope. The ranges that allow 50BMG are few and far between.I've never heard of a "one day pass" unless you are a guest.

The Mechanic makes a very important point. 50's get banned when people don't have zero'ed weapons and overshoot berms or destroy shit with APIT and tracer's. Fires are a very big reason there are so many restrictions on 50BMG.

    Great. Thanks for the info.

Will certainly make sure the lane is clear! The place we have in mind runs about 300 yards to a sharp wooded rise. No chance of a blue sky shot.

Why should 50 bmg be zero'd at 200?

you can zero your rifles @ what you want. my 50 is zero'd @ 100. Off the top of my head I think the 50bmg drops 2.5" @ 100
